What is Moodle, an open source learning management system?

MoodleMoot Global, an annual event that brings together Moodle enthusiasts from all over the world, recently took place in Barcelona from September 19 to 21. This year’s focus was on how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming education and the workplace. The event, attended by over 700 participants from 56 countries and featuring more than 100 speakers from 24 countries, provided a platform for the Moodle community to share ideas, collaborate, and learn from each other.

With its core team at Moodle HQ working closely with over 1000 developers, as well as a growing community of authorized partners, developers, system administrators, educators, and students, Moodle constantly improves its platform through the development of new features, bug fixes, and the sharing of resources and ideas.

The upcoming release of Moodle 4.3, scheduled for October 9, is anticipated to bring more than 300 bug fixes, improvements, and new features. One notable feature is the “In Course” communication option, which aims to enhance collaboration. The release will also include a matrix messaging system that facilitates smoother integration with other messaging systems like Slack and Teams.

At MoodleMoot Global 2023, the impact of AI in education was a prominent theme. The event covered various topics related to EdTech, including the use of augmented and virtual reality, the development of core competencies, addressing inclusion and equity, fostering soft skills, and supporting STEM education.
