For the first time holding the Mobile Legend Tournament, this is what Mas Waras was hoping for
TransparanNews, BEKASI CITY – Candidates for the District VII of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (DPR RI) elections, which covers Bekasi, Karawang, and Purwakarta in West Java, organized the Mobile Legends Piala Mas Waras Tournament on Jl. Dahlia Raya No.16, Kemang, Pusat Waras Bekasi building, on Sunday (10th August 2023).
The event was initiated by Waras Wasisto, a member of the West Java Provincial DPRD from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), who symbolizes the white muzzled cow created by Megawati Soekarnoputri in Pasundan Land. He stated that this was the first time such a tournament had been organized, adding that it provided an opportunity to engage the younger generation, particularly in Bekasi Regency.
Waras announced plans to hold a similar event in Karawang Regency on the 15th and 16th of August at one of the cafes in Kota Baru. If successful, they intend to organize the Mas Waras Mobile Legends Championship on a larger scale, although a suitable venue is yet to be determined. Waras expressed his desire to invite Ganjar Pranowo, their Presidential Candidate, to attend and close the Mobile Legends Competition event.
Participation in the tournament exceeded expectations, with 28 registered squads from nine sub-districts in Bekasi Regency. Each squad consisted of five players, accompanied by supporters and reserves, totaling around 200 people present on the day. The committee had prepared a prize pool of Rp. 6 million, along with providing food and beverages for the participants, free of charge.
One of the main goals of the tournament was to introduce young people to politics and eradicate any negative perception surrounding it. Waras emphasized the importance of engaging young voters ahead of the General Election on February 14, 2024. By tapping into activities popular among youth, such as the Mobile Legends hobby, they aimed to foster interest and encourage active participation in politics.
In response to the event, Dany Fendika, a 27-year-old resident of Cikarang Barat and an officer of the Hyper Solidarity Esports team, expressed his satisfaction with the initiative. He expressed hope that such moments could go beyond mere campaign efforts and truly make a positive impact.
