E-Sports, also known as electronic sports, is gaining immense popularity among the millennial generation and is considered to be the sport of the future. It has even been recognized as an official sport in various tournaments, including the Regional Sports Week (Porprov), at both regional and national levels.

Recently, the Youth and Sports Department of Pasuruan Regency organized an e-sports tournament in four different districts, namely Kraton, Rembang, Wonorejo, and Pohjentrek. The tournament attracted hundreds of high school students and even some university participants who are passionate about gaming.

Although Pasuruan Regency is still in the early stages of promoting sports based on digital technology, it is continuously making efforts to develop this emerging field. Taufiqul Ghoni, the Head of Youth and Sports in Pasuruan Regency, expressed that e-sports is highly popular among the millennial generation. The participants’ enthusiasm during the tournament registration clearly reflects the immense interest in this field.

“In today’s era, almost every young person owns a mobile phone and enjoys playing games for hours. This is why hundreds of children eagerly participate in our tournaments,” stated Ghoni on Wednesday.

The tournaments organized in Pasuruan Regency involve four main e-sports categories: Mobile Legends, PUBG, Free Fire, and Pro Evolution Soccer (PES). Ghoni mentioned that through these tournaments, they aim to discover talented athletes with exceptional e-sports skills. Once talented individuals are identified, they can further enhance their abilities through practice and regular participation in tournaments, ultimately producing winners.

Shobih Asrori, the Head of Commission IV of the Pasuruan Regency DPRD, believes that e-sports is a highly demanding sport that requires agility and strategic thinking. Players need to make quick decisions to outsmart their opponents and break their defense.
