Easternmost Railroad: In the fall of 1898 the Washington County Railroad spur from Ayers Junction allowed freight and passengers to move in and out of Eastport. Eighty years later when the last train left Eastport, Maine Central Railroad owned the railroad line. The Round House was located in the lot next to R&M IGA. Even though most of the track has been removed, the railroad bed can be followed in many areas of Eastport. In the downtown area, passengers, including President Franklin D. Roosevelt, stepped off the train just outside the WaCo Diner. Actual footage of this train can be viewed in the movie Sunrise at Campobello filmed in Eastport in 1959 with Ralph Bellamy as President Roosevelt. This movie can be rented at Fran's Convenience Store, 106 Water Street, at the head of the Breakwater (853-6048).
