Easternmost Port: The newest facilities for the Port of Eastport are located on Barron Road at a 43-acre parcel named Estes Head. From this pier goods, especially paper pulp, are shipped around the world. The downtown Breakwater area has a variety of other uses and is still occasionally used for shipping. The Eastport Port Authority office is located downtown at 3 Madison Street. The tugboats, Ahoskie and Pleon, are berthed at the Fish Pier, while the Chester T. Marshall, the vessel used to transport the Harbor Pilots to and from the ships, is berthed at the Breakwater. Security may prevent a land visit to Estes Head, but it can be seen from Shackford Head State Park or more closely from a boat.
Many locations in Eastport have free copies of a map detailing the Eastport/Lubec Quoddy Loop vicinity. Carry one with you. This map details roads and ferry routes connecting the entire area. You'll enjoy each of these day trips more fully if you have a camera and binoculars always at hand. At every turn you have the opportunity for a moose to appear, an eagle to soar overhead, or some other breathtaking sight to awaken your senses. Many days you'll want a sweater or sweatshirt within easy reach. Bring along water and food so you'll have the freedom to explore in every direction.
