Reversing Falls, Pembroke: Near the intersection of Route 1 and Route 214 in Pembroke there is a sign that says "Reversing Falls, 4 miles." The distance is actually 6.4 miles, but it is well worth the trip. Take Ayers Junction Road east at this intersection by the Pembroke Post Office. Follow it around to the right about .2 miles until you turn onto Leighton Point Road. Follow Leighton Point Road about 3.3 miles to Clarkside. Follow Clarkside about 1.2 miles to the end where you turn left. Follow another 1.7 miles to Reversing Falls. Hopefully you've brought a picnic so that you can spend some time enjoying nature. Look for the eagles. They'll be soaring. The internet site says that the road is difficult for RVs. Since their trip the road has been greatly improved.
Many locations in Eastport have free copies of a map detailing the Eastport/Lubec Quoddy Loop vicinity. Carry one with you. This map details roads and ferry routes connecting the entire area. You'll enjoy each of these day trips more fully if you have a camera and binoculars always at hand. At every turn you have the opportunity for a moose to appear, an eagle to soar overhead, or some other breathtaking sight to awaken your senses. Many days you'll want a sweater or sweatshirt within easy reach. Bring along water and food so you'll have the freedom to explore in every direction.
