• Golf: The St. Croix Country Club, the easternmost golf course in the United States, is a public nine-hole golf course located on Route 1 in Calais, Maine, beside the St. Croix River as you enter Calais from the south. Phone: (207) 454-8875. The Herring Cove Golf Course is a public nine-hole course located on the eastern side of Campobello Island. They can be reached at (506) 752-7010. Downeast Adventure Golf features an 18-hole golf putting course designed for the general public, all ages, complete with bridges, fountains, lights, and music. They also rent Old Town kayaks by the day at Qross Boats, LLC , a great way to explore downeast rivers, streams, lakes, and ponds. Both are located on Route 1, Perry, 731-9595, north of the 45th parallel.

Many locations in Eastport have free copies of a map detailing the Eastport/Lubec Quoddy Loop vicinity. Carry one with you. This map details roads and ferry routes connecting the entire area. You'll enjoy each of these day trips more fully if you have a camera and binoculars always at hand. At every turn you have the opportunity for a moose to appear, an eagle to soar overhead, or some other breathtaking sight to awaken your senses. Many days you'll want a sweater or sweatshirt within easy reach. Bring along water and food so you'll have the freedom to explore in every direction.
