Sunset: As the time comes for the sun to set, you'll want to be where you can enjoy the spectacle. The colors in the western sky can be breathtaking at this time, but it all seems to happen too quickly. Be prepared! Pick a spot where you have an unobstructed view across the water to the west for the most complete panorama of color. The boat ramp behind the "Boat School" parking area off Deep Cove Road offers one unobstructed view. Or you may select one of several spots just off Route 190 between Eastport and Pleasant Point. Another good choice is one of the Eastport "mountains," either behind the elementary school or at Shackford Head State Park. As with the sunrise, the sunset differs each day.
Many locations in Eastport have free copies of a map detailing the Eastport/Lubec Quoddy Loop vicinity. Carry one with you. This map details roads and ferry routes connecting the entire area. You'll enjoy each of these day trips more fully if you have a camera and binoculars always at hand. At every turn you have the opportunity for a moose to appear, an eagle to soar overhead, or some other breathtaking sight to awaken your senses. Many days you'll want a sweater or sweatshirt within easy reach. Bring along water and food so you'll have the freedom to explore in every direction.
